Catalog of the Species of Fishes
The California Academy of Sciences is offering a database containing about 53,500 described species and subspecies of fish. (Good for getting taxonomic information)
ITIS home page  (also contains invertebrate taxonomy)
NOTE: The initial on-line ITIS database contains information from the National Oceanographic Data Center's (NODC) Taxonomic Code Version 8.0. Certain groups (see ITIS Data Status) are currently undergoing ITIS review and will be updated shortly. Documentation of subsequent changes to the data (change tracking) will be implemented in a step-wise fashion. The decision to make the database available before many groups have been reviewed was driven by the practical need to make ITIS operational.
National Museum of Natural History/Smithsonian Institute Fish Page
Catalogued database listing the collection at the Museum. Also has links to other interesting sites.
